Commencement Checklist for Bachelor's Degree Candidates

 

Step 1: Apply to Graduate

In order to graduate from UCR, undergraduate students must submit a two-step graduation application. Students should start the graduation application process via R'Web. Once the graduation application is completed in R'Web, students will be directed to their College graduation application. For undergraduate students, you have not completed the application process until both applications have been submitted.

4:00 p.m., December 1, 2019 – deadline to apply to graduate Winter 2020.

4:00 p.m., March 1, 2020 – deadline to apply to graduate Spring 2020.

4:00 p.m., April 7, 2020 – deadline to apply to graduate Summer 2020 and participate at Commencement.  If you apply after the deadline, you may still be approved to participate, but your name will not be printed in the commemorative Commencement book.

Step 2: Review and Update your Personal Information in R'Web

Review your contact information and how your full name and degree information are recorded in R'Web as soon as possible to ensure that they are correct. Make sure to populate your Preferred First and Middle Name in R'Web if it is different than your legal name.

If you need to have your name corrected, information regarding requesting a change or correction of name is available on the Registrar's website.  Any changes or corrections to your name need to be updated to your record by May 4 to be included in the commemorative Commencement book so please allow the Registrar’s Office sufficient time to process your request.

If you need to have your degree information updated, please contact your department’s Student Affairs Officer.  Any changes or corrections to your degree information need to be updated to your record by May 4 to be included in the commemorative Commencement book so please allow them sufficient time to process your request.

Step 3: Submit your Intent to Participate Form when the link is e-mailed to eligible students starting TBD

Not everyone who graduates chooses to participate at Commencement. If you are planning to attend, you must register to walk in Commencement through the Intent to Participate form beginning TBD. 

The Intent to Participate form will be e-mailed to eligible students. You must submit your Intent to Participate form by TBD to ensure that you are printed in the commemorative Commencement book.

Step 4: Purchase your Cap and Gown (Not Required for Online Celebration in June 2020)

Please note, regalia is not required for the online celebration in June, so please only purchase regalia if you wish to have it.

Bachelor's degree cap, gown and tassel may be purchased through the Virtual Grad Fair website starting May 11, 2020. The price for a bachelor’s gown, cap, and tassel package is $56.98. Regalia purchased May 11 - May 18, 2020 during Virtual Grad Fair Week will be available at a 10% discounted price.

You can also purchase your discounted lifetime membership in the Alumni Association and receive a free undergraduate cap and gown. The Virtual Grad Fair website will still be live and available for online orders after May 18, however the 10% discount on regalia packages will no longer be offered.

Step 5: Attend Virtual Grad Fair Week

Virtual Grad Fair Week will take place online from May 11 - 18, 2020. The link to the Virtual Grad Fair website will be e-mailed to eligible students by May 8, 2020.

Step 6: Order your Guest Tickets starting TBD

Please note, tickets are not required for the online celebration in June 2020. The information on tickets below is regarding the in-person Commencement ceremonies.

Ticket ordering will open starting TBD. Information regarding how and when to order your guest tickets will be sent via e-mail to registered students the week of TBD.

Once you submit your ticket order, you will be given the option to either print or electronically distribute your tickets via email. Each ticket will have a unique barcode and may only be scanned once for admittance. Duplicate tickets will be denied entrance.

Step 7: Tell Us your Plans After Graduation

You've made it to graduation, but what's your next destination? Tell us your next step now!

Step 8: Attend UC Riverside's Online Celebration in June 2020 (Date TBD)

An online Commencement celebration for graduates and their families will be held in June 2020. Additional information regarding this celebration will be posted to the Commencement website homepage as soon as it is available. 

Step 9: Attend Postponed In-Person Commencement Ceremonies - (Dates TBD)

As you are aware, due to the current campus closure until June 19, 2020, UC Riverside's in-person Commencement ceremonies are being postponed until they can be safely rescheduled. Additional information regarding the postponed ceremonies will be posted to the Commencement website homepage as soon as it is available.

Step 10: Leave Your Legacy

Step 11: Join the UCR Alumni Association

Step 12: Diplomas

Diplomas are not distributed at Commencement. For information regarding the distribution of diplomas, please visit the Registrar's website.
